all set for Getafe!
I have very much confidence that our team will step it up in Iker’s absence, and that no matter who plays – Antonio or Diego – the goal will be a fortress. Anyway, we play Getafe (and the very handsome Miguel Torres) in an early game this weekend (12h), having done quite well in our previous games during this early kickoff time (remember the 7-1 against Osasuna?).

Álvaro (accidentally) broke Iker…
… and the media is estimating that he’ll be out from six weeks to three months (various sources; I am hoping Marca’s estimate of two months is another of its lies). Madrid’s medical report merely states that Iker had tests done at the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital which confirmed that he had fractured the base of his left thumb, and that he’ll be evaluated once again by a specialist to determine what type of treatment he’ll have. AS, meanwhile, says Iker will be operated on this Friday.
If our captain is out for a period of two months, he’ll miss of course Liga games, including possibly the clásico during the first week of March; the two Copa del Rey semifinal games (Jan. 30 and Feb. 27); and the two games against Manchester United in the Champions League (Feb. 13 and March 5). ¡Vamos Antonio!
This is what Iker said after the game: “I realized that something wasn’t right the moment I got hit. I have no idea what I have. It just hurts and when I move the index finger there is a noise. I hope it’s not anything. I felt a strong pain, as if I had broken something.”

FYI: this was only the second time that Iker left a game due to injury. The previous time was during the 2004-05 season, against Betis, and César took over for Iker.
Start praying for another of those San Iker miracles! And…
the figure should be shirtless too
If you’re struggling through your Tuesday like me (though that smile is still firmly in place), here’s a little pick-me-up: Mesut Özil posing for his upcoming wax figure at Madame Tussauds Berlin! According to Mes, he was picked by fans to become the only active German player to be featured at the museum, and he’ll go on display in June 2013 (his exact words were “I will be able to visit myself”). I wonder if he’ll take Sergio along for the visit?

I also wonder if these figures ever travel… that way “Mesut” can visit (scary) “Iker” in Madrid one day. Hopefully, by then, the Madrid museum will have a “Sergio” too…
they’re back!
Well, I woke up with a smile on my face this morning, and it’s still present now during the afternoon.

I wish I had time to make a post worthy of that fantastic game last night, but I don’t, so let’s just celebrate our team, especially these three men for their brilliant performances, and say a thank you for the return of our team and a little prayer that that team is here to stay.

the Sergio book – Sergio without boots (I)
Well, I think we could all use a little pick-me-up, so here is the next excerpt from Sergio’s book. We have finished the chapter “The XI of My Life,” and now we’re starting the chapter “Sergio Without Boots,” where various people close to him, such as his parents, his siblings and his friends, speak about him.

Let’s start with Paqui and Rubio. But first…
A little biography.
Sergio came into this world on an Easter Sunday, March 30, 1986. He was the third child in the Ramos-García family, following René (now 34) and Miriam (28). Paqui went into labor in the morning, called her mother Reyes and they went to the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío de Sevilla together. The family lived in Camas, in the Jardín Atalaya complex. It was a modern complex. Sergio spent the first 11 years of his life there in the fourth block, second floor. In front was a small square, where trees and stones served as goalposts. In the back, which his bedroom window faced, was a football field with real goals. Less than 50 meters away was the public school La Colina. Sergio spent a great part of his childhood in this area.
recent moments
Here are some recent moments that I thought needed to be shared with all of you…

This “¡Besugo vamos!” moment from the game against Real Sociedad wasn’t the only recent moment to link back to Iker’s interview with La Sexta last month.
